All Inverness final in H.I.S.A. Closed

Posted on 22 Mar 2010 by Robin

The Highlands & Islands Closed tournament was held in Wick Squash Club for the first time and featured competitors from throughout the region.

The Mens semi finals saw 3-0 wins for Inverness players Garry McKay and Ally McCorquodale but in contrasting fashion. Garry met Jamie Henderson ( Thurso ) and despite a spirited start in each game Jamie could not match Garry's fitness and accuracy.

Ally McCorquodale and Adam Stanger also had a 3-0 scoreline but with an hour and ten minutes on the clock it was a terrific encounter. Ally won the first two games by the narrowest margin but looked like he had taken control when 8-3 up in the third. Adam had other ideas and stormed back to tie at 8-8 just as Ally's strings snapped. The new racket seemd to help Ally and he closed out the match 10-8.

It was always going to be a tough task for Ally to beat Garry who is playing some superb Squash at present and so it proved. Garry took the final 3-0 to add the title to his Club Championship victory.
